Getting through each day should be a joyful experience because each day offers opportunity to improve not only one’s health, but also one’s mind.

When I was a little girl I contracted Tuberculosis, almost immediately after being immunised. I was very ill, I got over it, but I had x-rays on my chest every year for the first 15 years of my life to be sure it wasn’t coming back. I also know what it feels like to go under anaesthesia, the terrible fear of going into sedation and not knowing if you would come out of it alive. It’s not a feeling I would wish for anyone.

These days I’m very fortunate, as I’m healthy. I always start my day with a green drink, which consists of barley grass. This drink alters my pH and puts me into an alkaline chemistry. Along with the drink, I have a code that I live by - have something purposeful to do, someone to love and someone that loves you back, take time to focus on your breathing each day, and do something special for another human being – unconditionally.

I also have a saying that has given me great tolerance of others. Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting their own battle.

I think winter is a great time of the year to do something athletic or physical to help with what I call the winter blues. In July 2008, I walked the Kokoda Track, because I knew I could do it. I wrote a book about my experience, how I trained, what I took on the trek and how I felt about each day. It was a challenge, but I completed the track and have since set myself several other walking experiences. I love what setting and achieving a goal can do to your psyche. I set realistic goals and encourage others to do the same.

When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts about another person, you are not only hurting them, you are hurting yourself. This is acid thinking. When you feel anger rising in you, express it by either writing it down or saying it out loud on top of a hill. Expressing your feelings is part of healing.

I have stopped myself many a time from saying something that would cause grief to another, so if I’m thinking in this way, then I take a walk and change the energy. If I change my state, I therefore change my body chemistry.

Get a sheet of paper and write down what makes you happy. Observe it, and contemplate what you are prepared to change in order to achieve a blissful life. You know most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

I find simplifying life is a very obvious way to achieve harmony and bliss. I get through each day by being grateful for everything I have.

When I look around at my life, I know I’m blessed. What about you... How are you getting through each day?
