Raw food, sometimes known as live food gives us ultimate nutrition,
because the vitamins, minerals, fats and proteins remain in their
natural life-giving state. Cooking on the other hand, can destroy up to
80% of the nutritional value of food. Heating food can also produce
nasty toxic by-products and hard to digest compounds that deplete your
body of energy. Just think of what happens when a flame touches the
skin; it kills the cells. Well, by heating food, the vitality of the
cells is also being killed, along with the life-force energy or Prana.
Raw food reverses the aging process by re-mineralising teeth and bones, drawing toxins out and keeping a correct acid/alkaline balance in your body! You also maintain a healthy weight because you simply can’t over-eat raw foods. Smaller amounts become more satisfying, as raw foods are more nutrient dense. It’s quality, not quantity.
You will notice if you eat green, your start to think green. You also become more connected to your environment and as green is the colour of your heart chakra, you also feel more love!
The best way to get started is slowly. Try eating 75-80% raw foods and adding at least one green smoothie to your day, preferably 20min before a meal (see recipe below). Be warned that radical dietary changes can induce rather unpleasant detox effects eg colds, nausea, aches and pains. To assist a gentle detox, use yoga, specifically the following poses: twists (see photo), forward bends, and deep breathing.
The increased energy and vitality you get from eating organic raw foods will speak for itself. Most importantly, be kind and loving to yourself and just do what feels good for your unique self.
Berry Green Bliss Smoothie
1 tbsp Spirulina
1 handful baby spinach
1 handful blueberries (or other berries)
1 banana
Dash of filtered water
Blend, Enjoy. Kids love it!
