MAY 2010 - Editorial

When I announced the ‘Back 2 Basics’ (B2B) theme for  this month’s edition, I was surprised with some of the reactions I received.

Some people said, ‘Aww geez haven’t we heard this all before?’ suggesting that this topic is dated and no longer relevant. But as a society, have we really put the back to basics principles into practise?  The effects of not turning our attention inwards and simplifying our lives, is the often silent and insidious development of mental and physical disease. Depression is still widespread….doesn’t this come from being disconnected from the essence of who we really are and our insatiable expectations of how life and things should be?

My sense was there is still new B2B information to impart and others may still benefit from revisiting some of these core issues again.

Incidentally, can we ever hear this message too many times when it’s a message of hope and realness?

What I also discovered was that the B2B topic means different things to different people, which is great, as it encourages diversity and dialogue. So this month we aim to focus on the B2B message in an holistic way and it’s great to have Heather Foord sharing her thoughts this month with us too.

So overall we can keep things clean, green, alkaline at the right times (Miriam p8), organic and simple (Kookaburra p6), remembering the power of the breath (Raelene p7)….no fluff, no hype! Do we really need that extra plasma TV in the sixth bedroom? And in terms of our goals and life situation, isn’t this the time to consider what really matters in life?

I don’t care about spots on my apples
Leave me the birds and the bees – please”
