Holy Folk!

Holistic Bliss talks to medical herbalist Dominique Finney about the exciting line up at the Folk Medicine Program this year at the Woodford Folk Festival.

HB: What is folk heath and what aspects of it will be covered this year at the Woodford Folk Festival (WFF)?
Dominique: The Folk medicine program is in its third year and we aim to represent the essence of Australian health culture showing our patrons at the festival a diverse selection of health and healing modalities from Australia’s leading voices.
The Folk Medicine programme at Woodford Folk Festival will take you on a journey through the whole medicine wheel from 6am each morning as crystal bowl healings echo across the village green in harmony with a gorgeous meditation.
The Blue Lotus venue runs until 6pm daily, culminating in Wood forum, where cutting edge health topics are discussed in forum by a panel of health experts.

HB: What is the symbolic significance of the Blue Lotus?
Dominique: In nature the beautiful lotus will purify and cleanse polluted waterways, making wholesome once again what man has contaminated.

HB: What are  some of the new editions at the folk medicine program this year and what types of healing experiences can people expect at the WFF?
Dominique: The Folk Medicine programme this year has developed and evolved yet again into a dynamic health education program where you can participate, learn, listen, interact, discuss and enjoy contemporary and traditional forms of healing, medicine, holistic health and self awareness. There will be over 23 presenters covering some exciting topics including: sound healing techniques, Ayurvedic health astrology, didgeridoo healings, holistic health and yoga, chakra dancing and much more.

HB: From your own background as a medical herbalist, what is your top health tip for our readers this summer?
Dominique: My health tip this summer is very old and basic, keep drinking water, don’t get dehydrated, as it looks like we’ll be having a hot one. If you mix 15ml of your herbal medicine in each water bottle and sip it through the day, you will get the health benefits of your medicine all day. This is great for adrenal repair, energy boosting, immunity and stress formulas.

Dominique Finney is the programmer of the Folk Medicine Program at WFF.
She is also a well known medical herbalist and nutrionist based in Montville and author of ‘The Wellness Zone-Your Guide to Optimal Health’ Dominique is a widely published health writer and she also manufactures her own herbal medicines.
