Fit and Healthy for Summer!

Summer is here and it’s a great time to get moving, get outdoors and set up a healthy fitness routine. This month Holistic Bliss talks to a few local fitness experts to learn about some quick training tips for the hot summer ahead.

Ashley Walz, personal trainer and owner of Anytime Fitness says, “We all want results, especially when it means looking and feeling great. We all know that eating better and exercising more are important to maintain good health. But life is hectic, “I have no time” is a common catch cry.” Ashley says it helps to have a partner or trainer to keep you on track and formulate a good plan before you get started. He says consistency is the key and keeping a gym diary and log of your eating patterns can really help to raise awareness and help you stick to your plan. www.anytimefitness.com.au

Sleek physique’s’ personal trainers, Julia Lendvai and Allan Collinson share these training tips for summer: Exercising in the hot weather increases your core body temperature and can put extra stress on your heart and lungs. In order to disperse heat from the body, blood circulates closer to the skin surface and this leaves less blood for your muscles, which can lead to increased heart rate.

• Vitamin D from gentle sun exposure can aid in the utilisation of calcium in the body, regulate blood pressure and boost your immunity levels.

• Time your workouts to avoid the hottest part of the day.

• Reduce intensity and time of workouts until you acclimatise.

• Drink adequate fluids before, during and after exercise to avoid dehydration.

• Use a natural sunscreen to protect yourself from sunburn and sunglasses to protect your sensitive eyes.

• Wear suitable clothing that allows air circulation and evaporation of sweat from your body.

• Head to the pool and stay cool.

• Monitor any existing health issues as certain conditions can be aggravated by warmer weather.
